What happens with lock snapping?
Thieves are exploiting a weak point in locks on uPVC and composite doors. This vulnerability also affects most new apartment flats and some wooden doors. Lock snapping locally began around the early 2000s and was a significant problem in Doncaster then. It is now a real issue in the Barnsley Borough.
The lock is a “euro cylinder,” and its primary material is brass. It is often referred to as a “barrel.” Brass is a soft, rust-free metal that makes a long-lasting, low-maintenance lock.
With a few tools and some knowledge, you can break a euro cylinder lock in half with minimal effort. Once the intruder removes the outer half, they can access the lock. This makes the multi-point lock useless and the door easy to unlock. This simple, effective method shows the vulnerability of traditional euro locks.
Fit anti-snap locks to stop lock snapping
High-security snap-proof locks are now available. No one can snap these brilliant locks in half, and they have added protection. Thieves have other ways to bypass locks, but fitting anti-snap locks has stopped them. You cannot pick or bump them, and they have added anti-drill pins to prevent drilling.
Do anti-snap locks cost an arm and a leg?
No is the simple answer! We price our snap-proof lock package at £210. It includes three Ultion WXM Plus locks: one for the front door, one for the back, and one for the patio or French doors. Removal of your existing locks and fitting Ultion locks is also included in this price. If you don’t need three locks, give us a call. We’re happy to quote for one lock. The WXM Plus is the top lock in the range and has been designed specifically for the domestic market.
It is easy to fall into the “if they want to get in, they will do” trap. In my experience as a Barnsley locksmith, the more deterrents you can put in place, the better. Anti-snap locks are one, but there are others. We can also offer this advice as part of our service when upgrading your locks.
